KORE T-USA, KORE T-USA H, KORE T-USA W (T-Mobile) 2G & 3G sunsets
Date | Shutdown |
July 1, 2022 | Retirement of 3G network |
December 31, 2022 | Retirement of 2G network |
The T-Mobile 3G network will shut down on July 1, 2022. The 2G network remains on schedule to shut down on December 31, 2022. We encourage you to take timely action to address your impacted devices as described below.
- Voice: If your device is not LTE and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) capable, including VoLTE 911 capable, you will need to upgrade or replace your device to ensure continued voice calling and coverage.
- Data-Only Devices: These devices will need to be LTE capable to continue uninterrupted service. Devices that only rely on 3G technology must be upgraded or replaced by July 1, 2022
Important: The carrier's process of turning down these services does not include the deactivation of devices. The devices will be billed monthly charges until you deactivate them through a KORE connectivity management platform or the API.
Action: You must deactivate any T-Mobile 3G devices before the June billing cycle to avoid ongoing service billing.
Based on our experience with previous network sunsets, KORE anticipates that provisioning services may be slower as we approach the sunset date, so we advise our customers to plan to begin deactivating these devices by the June billing cycle.
KORE has extensive experience working with our customers to manage network sunsets and plan for migrations that minimize business impacts. KORE has a comprehensive program to help you migrate your 2G and 3G devices to LTE to make these network turndowns as seamless as possible.

Please verify the locations of your service and monitor device connectivity to take the appropriate action. The carrier process of turning down services does not include the deactivation of devices. We will continue to bill monthly charges for these devices until you deactivate them through a KORE connectivity management platform or the API.

AT&T 3G shutdown - February 22, 2022
The section includes:
- Important information
- Deactivate 3G devices by February 08, 2022
- 3G devices in Canada and Mexico
- Questions
As part of the KORE ongoing commitment to serve as your trusted advisor, we are providing this notice to remind you of the February 22, 2022, AT&T 3G network sunset. SIMs affected by the shutdown process will not allow a 3G device to connect to the network beyond this date, requiring customers to act now.
Important information
The carrier process of turning down 3G services does not include the deactivation of SIMs in devices supporting 3G only. KORE will continue to bill for these SIMs until you deactivate them through ConnectivityPro or Connectivity APIs.
Deactivate 3G devices by February 08, 2022
To avoid ongoing billing, customers using AT&T connectivity services must deactivate SIMs in 3G-only devices before February 08, 2022. Based on KORE’s experience with the 2G sunset, KORE is anticipating that provisioning on AT&T services may be slower nearing the sunset date. It is also likely that 3G service in many areas may not be immediately turned down, causing SIMs to continue generating usage beyond the shutdown date.
To reiterate, affected SIMs will continue to be billed for a monthly recurring charge AND all usage until deactivated, regardless of service availability. KORE will make its best efforts to facilitate deactivations for the sunset in a timely manner, but KORE is NOT responsible for deactivating devices by the sunset date due to late requests to Support or provisioning delays experienced by the carrier.
3G devices in Canada and Mexico
3G devices outside the United States may continue to operate as long as the roaming partner provides service. It should be noted that the North America NORAM data plans are not to be used for permanent roaming outside the US.
